The lights during this show were very low, not to say absent. Here is a link to her MySpace page, for you to hear what’s she’s doing from Spain to Berlin.

Excerpt from her page :

Jessie Evans’ first solo album “IS IT FIRE?” was recorded between Berlin and Mexico. The songs feature live drums and percussion by Toby Dammit (Iggy Pop, Swans) and guest musicians Budgie (The Creatures, Siouxsie and The Banshees), Martin Wenk (Calexico), and Namosh. Recorded in part by Thomas Stern (Einstürzenden Neubauten, Crime and The City Solution) and mixed/ co-produced in Tijuana by Pepe Mogt (Nortec Collective).

With the sensual yet chaotic charm of a shipwrecked sailorette dancing in a hurricane, IS IT FIRE? ventures into an exotic world of rhythm, reaching from the flesh and beyond to a place where drums conjure up images of latin heroes Perez Prado, Yma Sumac, afro-beat, nu-no wave & a touch of Istanbul, saxophones like a flock of birds guide the traveler through familiar but unknown lands, and trumpets enter like parades of mariachi’s dancing down on Revolution St. It’s a world where you want to reach out to touch the face and arms of strangers, to realize the human form, desire, to be hunted and captured by your emotion.

Legend of the fifth sun.

The legend explains there had been other four creations, and in each creation, one of the mayor gods (Quetalcoatl, Tezcatlipoca, Tlaloc, Ehecatl)took the job of being the sun. Each creation ended because the gods were not satisfied with the men they had created. But finally they create man from corn, and they need someone to take the task of being the sun, but none of the gods want to do it since they would need to be sacrified. Finally, Tecciztecatl accepts because he is proud and rich. The gods accept him, but they need someone else. They choose Nanauatl because he is humble and he accepts because it´s his duty.

They are purified. Tecciztecatl offers rich presents, and coral instead of blood. Nanauatl offers his blood, and makes penitence.

The gods make a big fire, which burns for four days. when Tecciztecatl tried to jump into the fire, he feels fear, he fails four times, because the heath is so strong, so he can`t do it. So the gods ask for Nanauatl. He closed his eyes to control his fears, and jumped. When Tecciztecatl saw he had jumpe, he feels wounded in his proud and jumped after him.

Nothing happened at first. But eventually two suns appears in the sky. The gods were angry, because Tecciztecatl was still following Nanauatl, and they glowed exactly the same, so one of the gods took a rabbit and throw it in the face of Tecciztecatl. He losted his brilliance, and the rabitt was marked on his face. So he becames the moon, and the moon still has the mark of a rabbit.

But still, the sun did not move. The gods accept they need to die, so the men could live. the god Ehecatl, the god of the wind, sacrifices all the gods, and then with a powerful wind, makes the sun begins to move.
